This year, <<your firm>> is pleased to introduce the tax data collector which will enable you to submit your tax information to us over the Internet. You will be guided through an intuitive interview process that is convenient and easy-to-use.

We chose to offer the tax data collector to our clients because

• It uses the convenience of the Internet together with high-encryption browser security.
• It has an easy-to-use interview process.
• It contains the acclaimed QuikClik feature which lets you jump directly to the screens you need.
• It enables you to view completed screens and monitor your progress, and even print a summary of your input.

Here's how the tax data collector works:

You will be contacted by mail and provided with the username and password which have been assigned to you. Keep in mind that your password is your key to your tax file and as such, it should remain completely confidential.

Starting February 1, 2002, you can access this new and exciting technology through our Web site at

Once at <www.yourfirm.com> click the link to the tax data collector.

It will verify some of your browser’s settings and whether it supports 128-bit encryption. If your computer or browser fails any of the tests, do not worry. These limitations are all very easy to overcome. For more information, please see our frequently asked questions.

Enter your username and password.

In your file, you will find your name and address, and those of your family members. Please verify this pre-existing information for accuracy.

You may move through the tax data collector simply by clicking the “Next” button and entering data in each relevant screen as it appears. Alternatively, you may use the interview navigation window located on the left-hand side of the screen to prompt the display of specific entry fields. 

Other family members are listed in the top left-hand corner of the screen. To access them, select a name from the list. 

To leave the application, click the Log out button in the top centre of the screen.

You may return as many times as you need to in order to plan and complete your return.

When you have finished . . .

Once you have entered ALL of your tax data, you will let us know that you are completely done by clicking the Submit tax file button from the toolbar.

Tax slips

Whether your tax return is filed electronically or on paper, it is best that your tax slips and receipts be in our possession. Please send us all supporting documents at:

Be sure to include all relevant slips and receipts (e.g. tuition, RRSP, charitable donations, medical expenses, etc.) If you are unsure of what to submit, it is better to include supporting documents than omit them.

What should I do if I forget my username or password?

Can I change the username or password I was assigned?

The password can be altered but only by <<your firm>> staff. Please contact <<contact person>> at <<your phone number>> if you feel your username and/or password have been compromised.

What if I have questions about how to enter information?

If you are unsure of how to input the information, please contact <<contact name>> at <<your phone number>> or enter the information to the best of your ability and use the Notes area of the interview to report your question.

Where is my data stored?

The information entered into the tax data collector is stored securely on servers owned and maintained by Dr Tax Software Inc., suppliers of our income tax preparation software.

How secure is my information in the tax data collector?

Our Internet tax data collector offers the best security available on the Web. We assure you that only the strictest of security measures have been implemented throughout.

When you log onto the tax collector, you pass through a firewall which blocks access to anyone who does not have the right to enter. From the time that you log on at our Web server, using your user ID and password, all activity on our Web site takes place in encrypted mode. We use the highest level of encryption available, 128 bits, which is the same level of encryption used for on-line trading and banking.
