FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
October 14, 2004
(MONTREAL, October 14, 2004) - Dr Tax Software
Inc. and The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants
(CICA) are pleased to announce a joint initiative to
provide users of Dr Tax's DT Max personal tax return
preparation software with the extended online help in
the Line-by-Line Guide to Preparing the Personal Tax
Return available on the CICA's Knotia Web site (www.knotia.ca),
Canada's first Internet Knowledge Service Provider specifically
designed for accounting, financial, legal, and tax professionals.
Thanks to this joint initiative, the DT Max state-of-the-art
knowledge base now includes direct links from each line
of the federal T1 and Quebec TP-1 personal tax returns
to the Line-by-Line Guide's comprehensive commentary
on, and coverage of, CRA and MRQ guidance including
supplementary guides, pamphlets, forms, bulletins, circulars,
and an exclusive annotations knowledge map relating
to any particular line number of the return.
"The Line-by-Line Guide is the perfect tool for
busy tax preparers," says Peter Hoult, CICA Director
of Information & Productivity Resources. "The
links now being offered in Dr Tax's T1 program go directly
to the appropriate CRA or MRQ guidance and to the extensive
commentary and cross-references from the editorial team
at Ernst & Young, which provides context, guidance,
planning tips, and examples to supplement the information
provided by the CRA and the MRQ."
The online Line-by-Line Guide is also available in
French, and contains concordance cross-references between
the federal T1 and the Quebec TP-1 returns, making it
easier to alternate between the federal and Quebec corresponding
lines and to determine the differences between the two
systems.
The DT Max professional tax products are used by more
than 2,500 tax preparation firms across Canada.
"We perceived a need for more tax research materials
for our DT Max users, either included within or accessible
from our software," says Malcolm Campbell, Vice-President
and General Manager of Dr Tax. "It was difficult
to justify developing our own when a powerful product
such as the CICA's Line-by-Line Guide on Knotia was
already being widely used in the marketplace and could
be seamlessly integrated with our tax preparation software
via the Internet."
Dr Tax Software and the CICA expect that DT Max users
will appreciate the ease-of-use and comprehensiveness
of the materials made available through this joint undertaking,
and look forward to creating links for other DT Max
tax products over the coming year.
