Frequently asked questions about DT ScanDoc

I have heard that scanning products can be complicated and time consuming to use. Will DT ScanDoc also be complicated and will it require a special dedicated network server and additional software other than DT Max?
No, DT ScanDoc is simple to use and can be run from your desktop.

Will DT ScanDoc de-skew where possible?
Yes, DT ScanDoc will have this functionality.

How will DT ScanDoc work with DT Max?
DT ScanDoc is integrated with DT Max. DT ScanDoc is activated within your DT Max client's file and .pdf file created by it will be stored and accessible through the new ScanDoc-File keyword.

Can I have multiple ScanDoc-File keywords?
Yes, if necessary, but it is best to keep all source documents in a single file -- or attachment.

Will I be able to view the document scan as I work in DT Max?
Yes, the .pdf file you create during scanning can be displayed in a second window on your monitor or on a second monitor using Adobe Reader.

Where will the scanned documents be stored?
You may select a file storage location but a default location within DT Max Database folder (with your DT Max data files) will be provided by DT ScanDoc.

Will I need to install DT ScanDoc on every computer in the office?
DT ScanDoc will be part of your installation CD or download, it will be installed as a part of the basic DT Max system install and activated by your licence key, similar to the Efile module.

What kind of scanner do I need?
You will need a TWAIN compliant scanner, preferably a high-speed automatic document feeder (ADF) scanner designed for business use. How do documents appear in the .pdf file.
In the first generation of DT ScanDoc, slips will appear in the order in which they were scanned. However you have the option of manually changing the order during the process.

Will DT Max import data directly off documents scanned using DT ScanDoc?
In the initial version of DT ScanDoc, this functionality will not be available. Dr Tax will be reviewing and enhancing your DT ScanDoc program annually and will add this feature when the technology permits.

Will DT ScanDoc be able to cope with irregularly sized slips, like some charity receipts?
This is a function of your ADF scanner, not the software. If your ADF can't cope with these different sized paper we recommend that irregularly sized or small slips be photocopied with like documents (for example, separate medical from donation receipts) on regular 8 1/2 x 11 paper before being scanned.

Will source documents still have to be kept by my client if I have electronic copies?
The CRA requires source documents be retained for at least 5 years.
